Developing a class agreement
In this activity students gain an understanding of the difficulties and processes involved in treaty negotiations. It will help them to appreciate the relationship between establishing a code of rights & responsibilities, and living up to an agreed standard of behaviour within everyday occurences. With an emphasis on group participation in the creation and protection of rights, an agreed set of rules and responsibilities is established for the group. Taking the human rights temperature of your school
A whole school activity which is crucial to development as a rights respecting community. This activity will have students and teachers alike examining thoughtfully and critically the human rights climate at their school and making connections between the need for a safe school environment and international standards of human rights. Curriculum values of 'integrity - Ngãkau/tapatahi' and 'Respect - Manaaki/ãwhi' are encouraged by making all members of the school community equally accountable for the protection of human rights.
